The CAB Nationally

A network of over 500 Citizens Advice Bureaux gives advice from over 2800 locations across the country on every subject from debt and employment to housing and discrimination. More than 5.5 million people seek help from the service every year, and as such it is the largest advice-giving agency in the country.

The CAB Service works to:

  • Inform people about the law and how it affects them about their rights and responsibilities; and about how they may be able to satisfy their needs.
  • Advise people on the options available to them and on the potential consequences of different courses of action.
  • Support people as they consider and decide what to do, listening to their concerns and helping them move forward.
  • Assist people in pursuing their chosen course of action by negotiation, representation and by referral to other sources of help when needed.
  • Influence those responsible for policies and services by bringing to their notice the problems people experience and recommending changes.

The aims of the CAB service are:

  • To provide the advice people need for the problems they face
  • To improve the policies and practices that affect people's lives

The service therefore provides impartial information, guidance and support, free to all individuals, and makes responsible use of the experience so gained.

Whatever the enquiry, simple or complex, the CAB will help. If specialist help is needed, we can provide it within the service, or point people in the right direction.

Citizens Advice is the operating name of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux.
